Evaluation of Sensors for Improved Nitrogen Recommendations in Spring Wheat Production

چکیده
T he issue of calcium (Ca) availability in alkaline, mineral soils has long been a matter of contention. Based on the commonly used ‘exchangeable cations’ test (ammonium acetate extraction), most Western soils are well supplied with Ca. However, in alkaline soils, a substantial percentage of ‘exchangeable’ calcium identified by this test can be in chemical forms not readily available to plants or active in soil solution. In California, calciumrelated physiological disorders such as tipburn on lettuce and blossom end rot of tomatoes and peppers are distressingly common. Vegetable growers here use significant quantities of calcium-based fertilizers and amendments to combat these disorders, and to improve postharvest quality. We conducted an extensive two-year study on soil calcium relations, attempting to answer three fundamental questions.

Efficiency of nitrogen fertilization in spring wheat
An assessment of the nitrogen fertilization efficiency should not only include quantitativeand qualitative yield changes, but also an analysis of formation some indicators such as: Nharvest index (NHI), N use efficiency (NUE), N utilization efficiency (NUtE), N agronomicefficiency (NAE), N physiological efficiency (NPE) and N apparent recovery fraction (NRF).The objective of the study was the e...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Reduced Cost Active NDVI Sensor for Crop Nutrient Management
There are methods to increase fertilizer nitrogen use efficiency through optical sensor-based nitrogen application; however, the sensors are expensive and cost prohibitive to farmers in the developing world. This study evaluated a novel, reduced cost, prototype, and optical sensor to determine if it could be used with the same level of accuracy as a commercial sensor. The stability of the proto...
متن کاملRelation between nitrogen nutrition index and production of spring malting barley
Although the nitrogen nutrition index (NNI) is a widely used indicator of plant nitrogenstatus, no model of NNI calculation for spring barley (Hordeum vulgare) reflecting also specificmalting requirements on grain has been published. The aim of this study was to determinean optimal range of the nitrogen nutrition index (ratio of nitrogen concentration in shootbiomass to critical nitrogen concen...
متن کاملChlorophyll meter – a decision-making tool for nitrogen application in wheat under light soils
Nitrogen (N) in plants is generally diagnosed by a soil test and plant tissue analysis. However, such analyses are costly in terms of time and money and are not easily accessible byresearchers and extension workers, let alone farmers. Alternative cost-effective methods arerequired for rapid analysis of the N status of crops and to guide N management in wheat. Theobjective of this study was to as...
متن کاملEvaluation Morphological Characteristics and Mineral Nutrients Content of Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Affected Soil Application of Nitrogen and Iron Fertilizers
This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of soil application of nitrogen (N) and iron (Fe) fertilizers on morphological traits and shoot mineral contents of bread wheat via factorial arrangement based on randomized complete block design with four replications. The factors included three level of nitrogen (100, 200 and 400 mg N kg-1 dry soil applied) as Ca(NO3)2 and three rate of Iron ...
